Super Falcons star Ohale announces international retirement

Super Falcons defender Osinachi Ohale has announced her retirement from international football following a 16-year sojourn in the national team.

The 34-year-old made the announcement in a post on her social media account on Friday after earning 86 caps for Nigeria.

Ohale expressed gratitude to her teammates, supporters in an emotional farewell message.

She wrote: “After 16 years of wearing the Nigerian jersey, representing my country, and giving everything I had to the beautiful game, I have made the very difficult decision to retire from international football.

“I gave this jersey my youth, my strength, my sweat, my tears, and my heart. And if I had to do it all over again, I would choose Nigeria every single time.

“To the Nigerian fans: thank you for believing in us, supporting us, celebrating with us, and standing by us through every high and every low. Your love made wearing this jersey even more special.

“Today, I say goodbye to international football with no regrets — only gratitude.

“86 caps. 16 years. 4 World Cups. 7 WAFCON. 5 WAFCON titles. But the greatest achievement of all is knowing that I had the privilege to serve my country.

“The jersey will leave my shoulders, but it will never leave my heart. Thank you, Nigeria, for allowing me to live my dream. Forever a Super Falcon. Forever a Nigerian Legend.”

Ohale won five WAFCON titles for the Super Falcons while also representing the country at four World Cups.

She was part of the Super Falcons squad that crashed out in the quarter-finals of the 2026 WAFCON, and also missed out on the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Meanwhile, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) paid tributes to Osinachi Ohale on her retirement from international football.

CAF took to their X account to appreciate Ohale on Saturday morning.

CAF wrote: ”Five WAFCON titles. One immortal legacy.

“Thank you Ohale for every battle, every trophy and every memory.”
