Shooting Stars to battle CS Sfaxien in CAF Confederation Cup

Nigeria Premier Football League side Shooting Stars will slug it out with Tunisian club CS Sfaxien in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Oluyole Warriors, who have adopted Remo Stars’ Stadium for their continental engagement, will host the first leg after the draws were announced on Thursday.

The winner of the encounter will face either Côte d’Ivoire’s AF Amadou Diallo or Sierra Leone’s East End Lions in the second preliminary round.

It would be recalled that Shooting Stars finished third with 60 points to book a place to in the competition in the 2026-27 season.

El-Kanemi Warriors will take on Guinea-Bissau’s União Desportiva Internacional (UDIB) in the first preliminary round and the winner of the clash will face Raja Casablanca in the second preliminary round.

The first-leg matches of the opening preliminary round have been scheduled to take place between September 4 and 6, while the return fixtures will be played between September 11 and 13, 2026.

No Nigerian team has ever won the CAF Confederation Cup since its inception in 2005.

Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien, and Morocco’s RS Berkane are the most successful team in the history of the competition with three titles each.

RS Berkane are the defending champions after they defeated Simba SC 3-1 on aggregate.
