Senegal lose again as Haaland brace secures knockout spot for Norway

Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland scored twice as Norway defeated Senegal 3-2 in a Group I encounter played at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford.

The keenly contested encounter came alive late in the first half when a defensive error by Senegal gifted substitute Marcus Holmgren Pederson the opportunity to put Norway ahead in the World Cup encounter.

Erling Haaland later showed his deadly instincts in front of goal when he took matters into his hands scoring twice for Norway in the 48th and 58th minutes of the game to give his team a 3-0 advantage.

The Teranga Lions tried to claw their way back into the game with Ismaila Sarr banging in two quick-fire goals but Norway held their nerves to secure all three points up for grabs in the game.

Both teams will play their next FIFA World Cup group stage matches on Friday, June 26, 2026, with Norway tackling France while Senegal will be hoping to secure a win against Iraq.
