‘Poor defending’ — How Nigerian fans are reacting to loss against Guinea-Bissau
Fans on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) are spitting fire after the Super Eagles shockingly lost 3-0 to hosts Guinea-Bissau in a Matchday 2 AFCON 2027 qualifying game played in Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau stunned Nigeria with goals from Franculino Dju, Mama Balde, and Alvaro Djalo leaving the Super Eagles scoreless in the game despite chances created.
The result drew fans frustration targeting goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali’s positioning in the 18-yard box and the team’s defense characterised by sloppy performances of full-backs Bruno Onyemaechi and Bright Osayi-Samuel.
In this article, FirstDailySports highlights a select pick of comments directed at the Super Eagles of Nigeria as the team now faces an uphill task of qualifying from Group L.

@footballpl2023 wrote: “The defending is woeful, but looks at the Goalkeeper’s position, he could have easily saved two of those goals he conceded.
“How does Nigeria have Okoye and Arthur on the bench and continues to play this clown in goal. Disgraceful!”
@seun_bolt tweeted: “Nobody dey even ginger. For all three goals. The marking of spaces was so shit. Can Nwabali do better? Maybe for the third goal
“But the first and second, the shooters were allowed to calmly pick their spots. Such an atrocious performance.”

@chaxdawg_909 remarked:”Nwabali dey keep like say nothing go happen. He had cemented that number 1 position.
Absolutely ridiculous and vaguely pathetic. Nonsense.
@only1swiss01 added; “if the defenders were good to go… nothing make those two goals enter. Pls what’s the job of a goal keeper?
“Do you even know how stupid it is to defend a keeper that conceded 4 goals without attempting to save any?”
@ChiefOnyedika thundered: “I’m watching the game from a GK’s lens. I’ve been watching Nwabali since NPFL. When shots are driven low or placed away from him, it’s a sure goal. He doesn’t attempt to try to save it. Bruno and Bright played bad but a competent GK saves at least two of those goals.”
@Nna_Emeka said: “The question you should be asking is why aren’t Nigeria players pressing? Do you expect the keeper to perform magic when the 10 players ahead of him are doing nothing to stop the ball.”
@walegates fired saying: “Whose idea was to bench a goalkeeper in Serie A & a goalkeeper in the Championship for a guy in the South African league not even a top goalie that league?”
However, @daddy2ds differed saying; “Anyone who looks at these clips and blame the goalkeeper for the goals conceded should never talk about football again.”
