Pedro named Chelsea’s best player after exclusion from Brazil W’Cup squad

Former Brighton and Hove Albion forward João Pedro has been named Chelsea’s Player of the Season, just 12 hours after he wasn’t called up to the Brazilian national squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The versatile Brazilian striker who has scored no fewer than 20 goals and 6 assists in his first season for the London club, was voted as Chelsea’s player of the season by supporters.

Joao Pedro won Chelsea’s Player of the Year gong with over 60 percent of the fan vote with Enzo Fernandez finishing second and Moises Caicedo coming a distant third.

João Pedro had earlier issued a statement on social media after being left out of Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad by coach Carlo Ancelotti.

In his statement, the player said that he tried everything he could to be part of the squad for the World Cup but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill his dream of representing his country at the mundial.

“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup, but I remain calm and focused, as I always try to be”.

“Joys and frustrations are part of football. From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home”. He wrote.
