Onyeka fired up for AFCON qualifying games
Coventry City midfielder Frank Onyeka is fired up for the two AFCON qualification games against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau taking place this month of September.
The combative media who was speaking ahead of the first game against Madagascar on Friday in Uyo said that the Super Eagles will play to win both games convincingly.
The former Brentford player stated further that it was quite disappointing to miss out on the 2026 World Cup but the Super Eagles have something to prepare for at the next AFCON.
“Just like every other match that we’ll be playing, we have to win every game. I know we’re quite disappointed not to qualify for the World Cup, but now we’re back. We have something to prepare for, which is the Afcon next year,” he told Ademola Victor TV.
Onyeka said that the Super Eagles are not underestimating their opponents but will take every game as it comes because they want to win especially when they are playing on home soil.

“So I guess we will take every game as it comes, but for us we want to win this game. Especially when we are playing on our ground. We don’t underestimate anything.
“We focus only on ourselves. We don’t focus on the opponent. So, we have to play well to win. That’s what we are focusing on: to play well and win,” he added.
Onyeka is part of the 24-man squad invited by coach Eric Chelle for the games though, star striker Victor Osimhen will miss both matches due to a right adductor muscle strain.
Nigeria will clash with Madagascar on September 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and four days later, September 29, will play against Guinea-Bissau at the Stade du 24 Septembre in Bissau.
