Nations League: Germany’s defeat to Greece part of the process –Klopp

Jurgen Klopp

Germany coach Jürgen Klopp has revealed that the shock 1-0 home loss to Greece in the Nations League is part of the rebuilding process for the team.

Greece earned their first-ever win over Germany on Sunday thanks to a Dimitrios Kourbelis’ 74th-minute strike.

The former Liverpool manager is winless in his first two games in charge of Germany after he was appointed in July.

The first match ended 1-1 against Netherlands before the stunning defeat to Greece to leave Germany with one point from two games.

Klopp was disappointed with the defeat, describing it as part of the process.

He said: “It’s part of the process, absolutely. The lineup, the formation, the many changes — that is all 100% down to me.

“Football, that’s how it is. Drawing this game tonight, I could have easily taken it, but losing — that’s harsh. I don’t think we deserved that, but it happened anyway, and here we are.

“Greece had a plan for the game tonight. We have to be more convinced about what we are doing. And in that moment, things will be good.”

Klopp made five changes to the squad in the encounter and he has expressed his desire to continue rotating the team ahead of their next match against Serbia in Munich.

He said: “We’ll change the squad, change the team. The good thing is that the other team doesn’t necessarily know how we’re going to play, but we don’t know right now how we’re going to play, because we have to bring that group together again.

“We can take a lot out of this game, and we will do that — and we’ll work on it.”

Germany are now winless in their last four matches since beating Ivory Coast in their second group game at the World Cup.
