The president of Inter Milan football club Guiseppe Marotta has backed manager Christian Chivu as the right man for a long term project after clinching the club’s 21st Serie A title.

Marotta in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) said that the club can open a very long chapter with the Romanian coach whom he described as the right man for the project.

“We can open a very long chapter at our club with Cristian Chivu.

“He’s the right man to build a long term project,” Marotta wrote on his X page.

Inter Milan were crowned champions of the Serie A for the 21st time following a 2-0 victory against Parma on Sunday at the Piazza del Duomo stadium.

Moments after the final whistle, fans of the club clad in black and blue stormed into the streets in celebration. Nearby, the San Siro stadium, flares and fireworks lit up the night sky as celebrations continued.

During the tensely contested encounter, Inter drew first blood in the first half of stoppage time when Marcus Thuram scored the first goal before Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored the second goal 10 minutes before the game ended.

The result catapulted Inter’s points haul to 82 points (enough to win the Scudetto) thus edging their closest rivals, Napoli with three games left to play in the Italian league season.

Speaking moments after the game, Inter striker, Lautaro Martinez said that he is happy his team won the Scudetto considering the fact that many people didn’t see them as favorites.

“We feel so happy now. It was not easy to start again after a season where we lost all the competitions we were in right at the end, but I am very happy today with this achievement,” Martinez said.

“It was a very important objective for us, perhaps many didn’t see us being favourites considering what happened last term, but we worked so hard on and off the field.”
